As early as seven years of age Peter Grant wanted to follow in his fathers footsteps and take to the stage. Cutting his teeth performing on the club circuit, by his early teens he was playing weddings, bingo halls, jazz clubs, cruise ships and even gangsters parties and was already well on the way to becoming the consummate performer he is today.
Hailing from Guisely, West Yorkshire, school was pretty much a distraction for Peter away from his one love, music. He would spend hours teaching himself piano and mimicking his musical heroes Frank Sinatra and Buddy Greco.
Shortly after turning sixteen Peter came to the attention of a music industry manager, who spotting his potential offered him a contract. Within two weeks he was recording at the legendary Abbey Road studios working with a 50-piece orchestra on demos for his debut album.
Peter Grant signed to Universal Music while still aged just sixteen. His first album New Vintage, a collection of standards and big band classics, reached the Top 10 of the album charts, going Gold and selling over 200,000 copies. A UK tour, multiple TV appearances, screaming fans and paparazzi followed, giving Peter his first full taste of success.
Although not as successful as its predecessor Peters second release Traditional, again an album of covers, charted well. Whilst Universal were ready to move forward and start work on a third album Peter had other ideas. Although he enjoyed the success and all that came with it, Peter also had a strong desire to write and record an album of his own songs and took the brave move to leave Universal to pursue this dream.
In early 2009 Peter met record producer Andy Wright (Imelda May, Simply Red) who took him under his wing and invited him to write and record with him in his own Sphere Studios in Battersea. Peter and Andy hit it off and along with fellow producer Gavin Goldberg, started writing songs. For the first time Peter had the freedom to write about being young, about the experiences in his life so far and together they started honing Peters own sound. One of the first songs to materialize from these early sessions was When You Were My Girl, which cleverly combined the old school feel that had become Peters early trademark with a contemporary sound.
No longer confined by time, Peter worked with his producers for the next two years, re-discovering the enjoyment of making music, writing, developing, crafting and fine tuning the songs that collectively make up his debut album of original songs, 'Too Close'.
'Too Close' is an album for everyone. Big songs with soaring vocals and incredible string arrangements by the legendary Peter Vitesse. The album, was recorded at Sphere studios and Abbey Road and has many highlights including title track 'Too Close', 'Take It To The Roof', 'Soldiers' which was co-written with Mark Hudson (Aerosmith, Ringo Starr, Hanson), 'Better Days', and album closer 'Dear Friend'. Also amongst the set is the song dubbed 'the Vampire song' but better known as Innocent Times. This is the song Peter is most proud of as it was written solely by him, and has seen him through all times, good and bad.
Too Close will be released later this year on Peters own PGMusic label through Lucid Marketing and Absolute/Universal Distribution. The Peter Grant journey continues as he rightfully takes his place back on stage with the album hes always wanted to make. The single Too Close is released on PG Music on 26th September, 2011. Too Close the album will be released in November, 2011.
